Beautiful day for a motorcycle ride into the country, and breakfast was the destination. The Texas Star Cafe for the bill perfectly. . I arrived not long after they opened and it was already hopping; about half the seats were full. Still, the waitress arrived soon after with coffee. . Their menu wasn't long, but I knew from experience that the serving would be Texas-sized, so I had to take a minute to decide how hungry I was. I finally ordered the country fried steak with "hash browns", sunny side eggs, and toast. . I put the hash browns in quotes because really they were dice-sized chunks of fried potatoes, not shredded. They were good, but not hash browns. . The food was uniformly delicious, the service was excellent, the vibe was country-rancher chillaxed... all of it perfect for my Saturday morning. . I'd stopped here several years earlier and had a burger. It was terrific and judging by the reviews, it still is. It's nice to see some things don't change.

What a fun place to eat. Typical small town Texas place, Texas stuff all over, friendly people, and great food. I got the large chicken fried steak, which was two patties so I assume the "small" is one patty, and it was perfectly fried, excellent fried that dip well with the white gravy, large drinks. I loved it. My daughter got the bacon cheeseburger and it was huge. I thought it was a little strange that it didn't come with fries but it was SO big that she did fine with some of my fries. She loved the burger, too. And the fries are also excellent, so definitely worth the a la cart to go with your burger. New Ulm is a little country town but they serve up a hella good meal.

Still just as good as when I was a little girl getting to eat with my grandma and drink root beer out of a chilled beer mug!

Love this Cafe. My family has stayed in New Ulm the last two years and I’ve stopped by each time. Both have been great experiences. This place is absolutely a local hotspot, so expect a bit of traffic. The wait is absolutely worth it.

Got the jalapeno bacon cheeseburger and it was great! Juicy, spicy, and a lot of flavor. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.
